I've just re powered my 2000 27walk with twin 225 Optimax's and I reused the props from the 200 Merc carb saltwater engines. I'm wondering if I should replace the props to reduce cavitation I'm noticing while trying to get up on plane. Current props are 3 bladed Mercury Mirage stainless 17 pitch.

Thanks

First consideration, are you reching into rated WOT operating range on new engines?  way above?, or  Below? right in middle???
if  @ max  rated rpm with normal load is reached you have the pitch ~correct.
what are your goals and desired priorities? Max fuel efficiency? max engine life, max top speed, max acceleration.???etc.
if the cavitation plates are  positioned right  the trim tucked in, the rpm is correct and all other factors are normal a half inch more diameter might help, If slip or cavitation are real bad maybe 4 blades but they will slow you down a bit and cost more.
if you are under pitched move up enough to bring rpm into line.
if props are running in clean water and cavitating excessively more blade area via different diameter or blade style  may help.

many prop sources will let your try before you buy or allow returns, this is often the best way if you dont break them, worth paying a bit more for this option IMO.

Thank for the quick reply. I am hitting WOT just just below the rated max RPM 5500. I'm hoping for max fuel efficiency and am getting 1.75 mpg at cruise so  I'm really pretty happy there.
I'll give the prop guys a call to see if they have a try before you buy option.

thanks again
