i guess this question is directed at bob but any other sugesstions would be greatly appreciated.my son has a 1980 20' proline center console with a spongy deck.what can he expect to find under the glass deck,plywood over stringers,foam or just air space between glass & bottom?

The deck will be cored with ply, with a good layer of glass on the underside.  Where the deck meets the stringers and b/heads, there should be bonding putty between the 2.

The spongy areas are simply rotten coring, happens on the best...

What I found on my earlier Proline 24 was plywood stringer that were not glassed in completely. They rotted in the middle four inches that was not glassed.  I removed everything and replaced with nidacore.  Worked out great.
