Having an issue here w/ my ignition switch on '98 251wa o/b.  The back of the switch has 10 wires but from what I'm seeing at the stores all the ignition switches have six lugs.  Any ideas?

How many lugs on present switch? 10wires? to 10 lugs?
I dont know your precise system  but doubt it is rare type.
Is there a cold start circuit (often a pushkey motion on your old one?)

if there is, there may be some redundancy to keep accessories energized while using cold start.

there are normall 3 main circuit combos the "keyswitch" provides.
1 open circuit =off and stop engine/ 2 ignition, fuel and accessorries circuit closed =power on running/ 3 circuit 2energized/closed+starter cranking circuit closed to energize starter solenoid.

You may have additional taps for "always  on" power(clocks/data memories) and cold start choke or prime features. these often dont need to be keyed at all.
Often the switch is a "briggs and stratton" or similar generic switch.
also if you can identify a main power feed terminal you can put a meter to it and see which contacts close in which key positions.

many lugs may be redundant circuits, so you just may be able to use the new switch by doubling connections or dovetailing wiring to the right  category of lug.
