I'm no expert about outboard motors, but I do have some working knowledge on them.  My oil pump is going bad, and I asked the mechanic to disengage the vro and by pass it.  I told him I wouldn't mind premixing 50:1 at the gas station.  He told me that some motors were set up to bypass and some you could not.  He said mine couldn't.  Does this sound right?  I have a 98 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner.

Sorry for the typo.  I meant 115 hp Johnson Oceanrunner...not 150.

Think I would find another mech. and get a second opinion, sounds like this guy is working on a commision and wants to hit you for a new pump.
