Hello.  My husband and I own a 2007 ProLine 21 Walk with a 150 Mercury Verado.  Could you tell me what prop should be on that engine.  Since we go the boat, it never went over 32mph.  I know when you bottom paint, you lose a few miles, but what are some reasons for not getting the maximum speed/rpm?
Thanks

Brisprincess,
What size prop are you currently running?  Even with bottom paint, you should be seeing low 40s.  Can it wait until Monday when I can get my hands on the test data?

Hi Bob
Sure it can wait until Monday.  Right now there is a 17" Mirage prop.  The boats has never gotten speeds any where near 40's so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Bris,
So my guess is your running a 15 X 17.  One question, how is your holeshot?  My suggestion would be to test a 14 1/2 X 19 or 21.  The decrease in blade area with a 14 1/2 might make your holeshot a little more sluggish, but remember, pitch is the theoretical distance a boat moves forward with each turn (RPM) of the prop.

What diameter are you running?

Hi Bob,
I am not sure if it has a 15 x 17.  The boat is at the dealer right now for this problem, but before we brought it to the dealer, from holeshot the boat was sluggish.  It did 26mph when we brought it to them.  They say it does 38 mph now at 5750 RPMs.  That was with changing the throttle control and cleaning the bottom of the boat.  The technician says he changed the prop and it went slower.  I need to get the info on what prop he tried.  The outboard is still under warranty, so I don't know if they sold us the boat with the wrong prop on it. (The boat did not have a prop on it when we bought it, so we don't know   if it is the right one or not).  The technician also keeps saying that the full gas tank may have something to do with it as well.  Should we be happy with 38mph at 5750 rpms? Is that acceptable?  I am going to have to talk to the general manager to try to get this resolved.  I think that it is a money issue, they don't want to put the correct prop on.  I will check on all the information you have given us.  If I go there, is there a way that maybe after I talk with them, if I can possibly contact you at ProLine for help.  You have been very helpful and knowledgeable up to this point with all our questions.
Thanks so much.

Bp,
Check this link out to Mercs site:
150 Verado

Note the operating range.  Your boat is 650RPMs below max.  When we prop motors, we try to get as close to max as possible without bumping the rev limiter.  Show him this, and then ask him why you should be happy leaving another 650 RPM in the can plus a sluggish holeshot.

Sounds like your dealer needs to come clean... Wink

Bob,
I will print all this information that you have helped us with and take it to the dealer.  If the mechanic has any questions, can we contact you by telephone? They are an authorized Pro-Line/Mercury Dealer.  Or is there someone at ProLine for me to address this with if need be?  Not sure if he knows or is blowing smoke up our butts.
We appreciate all of your input so far in this matter.

Guys,
Now I get it.  Bri's Princess.  Very clever!  Anyway, right now, as far as Pro-Line goes, I am it, and I'm not even working!  The plant is basically shut down.  But none the less, we shall work through this.  Just got a reply to a question I asked to a friend of mine running a 250 Verado on a 19' Aluminacraft and he's running a 15 X 19.  But I think it is time to consult the test logs.  However, it is entirely possible that we never sold the 21 Walk with a 150 Verado from the factory.  I personally can't remember that combination.

I've got some things to do tomorrow, but I'll see if I can get up to the plant Wednesday and dig up what I can find.  Do me a favor.  Find your HIN for me.  That is very important.  You know where it is located.  Just below the rubrail, starboard side on the transom.

Bob,
I have that HIN for you.  It is:  PLCWC0171607.  Once again thanks for everything that you are doing to help us. Smiley

Guys,
Guess what? we shall find out EXACTLY what she left the factory with!  An email is going out to Jim Kogler, our CS manager as soon as I finish typing this.  I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow.  Sound good?

Bob that sounds great.  I have another question.  I printed the 150 Verado specs, so that I can go to Mercury's site to select a prop, but I am stuck as to engine, and drive for ours.  Since she isn't here, how can I find that out?
Thanks,

Brian,
This is the reply I got back from Jim Kogler:

Bob:

PLCWC017I607 had a Mercury 150 Verado, and was shipped with a 15 1/2 x 17 Mirage Plus prop. This particular boat did not have a water test sheet on it, but I show a water test sheet for a 2006-21 w/a with a 150 Verado. It shows the engine is mounted in the 3rd hole down, and WOT heavy load was 43.2 and a light load was 42.1. It also shows at 4000 rpm's, heavy load is 30.1 and light load is 28.8. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help,
Jim

I think Jim got the light and heavy loads reversed.  But anyway, that was what she did in '06.  I really think the prop needs to let the motor get into the 6200-6300 RPM range.  Right now that ain't even close to happening. Angry
