I have a 2005 31 WA does anyone know the weight of the boat. It has twin 250 verados, recommended trailer, and what kind of vehicle I would need to tow it? I got orders from NC to Bridgeport, CA. Yes, the one up in the Sierra Nevada mountains....I refuse to give her up and I need to know what all I need to get to bring her with. Thanks!!

I have the same boat, just a little older. You're looking at about 12,000 lbs I'd guess. You would need a 15K GVW rated triple axel trailer and at least a 1 ton tow vehicle. You are also looking at oversize permits (11' beam) for many states between NC and CA. There was a recent thread on The Hull Truth about someone that wanted to go the other way with a similar sized rig. I won't attempt to repeat those comments, but suffice it to say it was generally considered a bad idea for someone inexperienced in towing such a beast long distance to attempt to do so. You may be a professional hauler for all I know, but I suspect not from your question. It will cost you about $5Kto $6K to ship the boat professionally. You will spend many times that on a suitable tow vehicle and trailer, not to mention the fuel, meals and lodging. You may be stuck moving only at night and weekdays in some locations. This is a massive undertaking with significant risk.

I'm not as concerned with getting it there. I can have the trailer moved up there by a pro. I need to buy a trailer and also a vehicle because I have to be able to get it back and forth to the water. The nearest large body of water is Lake Tahoe and the slip fees are $1000+ a month. Plus the season is only about 5 months long. I just need to tow it back and forth from the house up there. Thanks for the help.

I used to fly a low level in Navy A7s which flew right over Bridgeport then on to Walker Lake to Fallon ranges. I can't think of any facilities in Bridgeport Roll Eyes

Bridgeport Res ain't much. There is also Walker, Pyramid, Mead, and Powell that are propably doable for you. Long tow to the Pacific any way you go but your boat would open alot of fishing and overnights for you. Dana Pt to Catalina Island for Dorado, Yellowtail, Albacore, and Striped Marlin. Pidgeon Pt for Salmon (IF we get a season), rockfish, Lingcod, Albacore. San Diego for more warm pelagics and down into Mexican waters for White Sea Bass, Yellow Fin Tuna, etc. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Glad to hear you are not thinking about a cross country tow!  Still, you will need a 15KGVW triple axel Trailer and a suitable tow vehicle. You pretty much max out at 10K GVW with any of the standard PU (Tundra, F250, Ram 2500) so I would look for a f350, 3500 size vehicle with a good weight distributing hitch.

Take a good look at the new GMC or Chevy Duramax Diesel with Allison transmission.  I have an '08 3/4 ton.  Hauled my 1993 Proline 2950 from San Diego to Portland, OR., and it was no problem.  Hell of a good rig - 6 speed transmission with paddle shifter, and plenty of power.  Tow capacity is 13K with a ball hitch for either the 2500HD or the 3500HD.
