I recently got a new washdown station pump but when I lifted the lid it was a bad leak when the pump was on. I am going to further check this out next weekend to identify where its from. But my question is this, I have a hose connected  to the outlet at the back of the boat and a spray nosel. Is it bad to have a spray nosel and that keeps water pressure on the pump and lines when your not pulling the trigger?

If you have no leaks, the pump will nor cycle.  I assume you installed a pump with a built in pressure switch...

Sounds like you just have a bad connection or maybe a bad hose. I switched out my back facuet in the back sink and made it into a freash water wash down. I had to replace the hose going from the pump to the back sink because th old one was a ittl brittle.

Might be a little confusion here. On my boat I already have a fresh water washdown sprayer in the sink.  Down from it there is a water outlet that lets you hook up a hose that you can wash down your boat while in the water with the saltwater. But mine doesnt shut off when im not using it, so I was wondering if there is a bigger problem or the pump that was sent to me from pro-line is ment to run all the time the switch is on.

marcum,
the pump will stay on as long as you keep the switch on.  it may not be pumping water but youll still hear it cause i think its  keeping the pressure in the line so when you pull the trigger you get water right away.  in your case your pump will be running and pumping water all the time because of the water leak.  if you leave the switch on for long periods youll just get a bilge full of saltwater.  find the leak and fix and take it from there.  my old boat was like that, small leak when i let the presure build up but i only turned on the switch when i wanted water.  its a good idea to fix the leak cause youre introducing saltwater where you dont want it.  lots of things get corroded real fast with saltwater.  i may not be right but thats what i understand of the system.  kor

Most pumps have a preasure shut off so when the pump builds up preasure it will shut off the motor. When you run the hose then the pump cuts back on without having to flip any switches. Either you have a pump that does not have a preasure shut off or you have a leak going to from the pump to the hose connection. If there is a leak the pump will not shut off and it will keep pumping water into the boat. Do you have a manual to determine if it has a preasure shut off?

Lately they have been using some Attwood pumps that do not have a pressure switch.  The normal pump used (Shur-flo) did, but there was a inability to get them, for reasons I won't disclose...

When you have a pump with a pressure switch, you turn the pump on, it pressurizes the system, then shuts off until you demand water.  Use your washdown or your fresh water pump, do what you have to, release the trigger or turn off the faucet, soon thereafter you'll hear the pump shut off, without having to touch the switch on the dash.
