Seabob,

Thanks to Faron by way of the Fort Myers dealer, I now have the folding leg for the V-Berth extension for a 251. Thanks to CUSHIONGUY I now have the cushion for the V-Berth extension. And thanks to 'wizard I now have the pattern for the V-Berth extension.

From the pictures that 'wizard sent to me, and from Faron's description as laminated wood, it seems the extension was cut from the same material used to make the hatches that go on top of the carpeted storage areas under the cushions of the V-Berth.

I'm having trouble finding that specific product. Lowes has laminated pine in 3/4 and 1 inch thicknesses. Will that material do? I'd like to get the same stuff ProLine used, and it seems it would be easy to locate, but I can't.

Help please.

Call Faron at Proline and get the product name.  There is a company in Orlando that probably get the material and cut the pattern for a price.  Not cheap but they do work for a lot of the boat companies around and has access to that material.  Teak Isle 407 656 8885,  sales rep Steve Carlson.  Gary

Good job, Gary!  I probably would have told him the same... Thumbs Up

Thanks Gary. I appreciate it.

It seems like the material is just white hardboard or pegboard without the holes in it. It's very light weight material. I'll find something suitable and low cost at a lumber store. Fortunately the captain of the boat next to mine has already offered to cut it for me.

Went to the Teak Isle website. Lots of good ideas there. Gary you're right. I recognized a number of the photos from boats I looked at before I bought this one.

Does such an extension exist for the later model 23 Walk berths?  There's a lot of "sleepable" space that would be nice to use...

-Brent
on my 231 I just cut a  triangular piece of 3/4 inch plywood and roughly fit it to the space, without it I couldnt sleep overnight on mine very well. nibles at corners and edges until it rested in place well enough to support feet, Stands up on stbd side of cabin well between main bunk and step/bulkhead, point up. piece of foam cut to match, most unnatractive thing on my boat but its out of the way when not in use.  make one out of anything that will do the job well enough if you plan on overnighting,   btw, 2people in cabin better be really compatible,  Cheers

Heh, thanks.   Most likely to be me and my 10yr old son overnighting to spearfish, so that should work.

Melamine is sold at Lowes and Home Depot. You can order a piece that's 4x4 in white. Then your surfaces are smooth. Get the melamine tape and iron it on the sides to prevent moisture absorption. Make it big enough to overlap your existing surfaces for support. Then call your dealer and have them order the folding leg for the aft bench seats. It's less than $20 bucks. Attach that to the front of the insert for support.

When you've decided what your insert will look like, trace it and send it to CUSHIONGUY with the material you want used. Maybe he has some like your present interior. He can make a cushion for you.

Here's what the insert for the 251 looks like....a convenience I have because of the generosity of aewizard.

That looks nicely done.

I looked at it today and figured I'd probably need to screw in some "shelf supports" along with a folding leg like that one.  In its stock form, the 23's berth looks good enough for one of the kids to take a nap on the way home, but it is an odd shape...

For the record that's a picture of 'wizard's, which he kindly sent to me along with a tracing when I was getting started. He has the original optional insert. Mine looks like that, but I wanted to give the credit where the credit is due.

In the picture the top edge is the one that faces aft. The curves go around the galley on the left and the head on the right.

It's nice to have the extra centerline length.

Pro251WA,

I was not able to view the picture of the insert. Would you be so kind as to re- post it?
I recently purchased a 241 WA and there appears to be a missing cushion and "board piece" in our cuddy cabin. There IS a board directly over the portapotty that has underneath a fitting bolted to it for a table base maybe 4" in circum. along with a cushion that sits on top of this base. The previous owner was unable to locate the table leg. Aft of this table top and cushion, it appears as if there should also be an additional board and cushion that would  complete the v-berth for sleeping.
Where can I locate a replacement table leg and the additional "board" and cushion to finish off our v-berth for sleeping?
Thanks,

Tim

Hey TTOWN Tim. Thumbs Up
the 241 is probably just the same as the 231, single window walkaround, (251 is a bit bigger 2window per side).
the single window boats didn't to my knowledge come with the bunk filler board or cussion aft of the table standard. didnt even know if an option.
if you have the small ledge you can mount a board in that position, I made a crude one for mine that I sometimes use over nighting only.
If you are going to sleep 2 you will want it.
"cushion guy" will make sell you a cushion if you give him the pattern or he may already have it.
If they sold a board and cushion my dealer didn't know anything about it.
most of us have made one.  A leg probably not needed ,if you use strong enough material. Cheers
