Hi Bob
I have '96 231 w/a over in Spain. I bought it with 2004 Yamaha F150 on it which is not quite man enough for the job. I could get my hands on a 2008 F250. The max HP for the 231 model was 300 but will the weight at 605lbs be too much for the leg?   I will appreciate your advice.

Supertramp,
Keep this in mind.  In '96, that max HP was with twin 150s.  Somewhere around 800-850 lbs. when all said and done.  I don't think 605 is going to give an issue. Smiley

Thanks for this Bob.
The 231 I have has the extended leg (or whatever it was called) on the transom which limits it to a single engine anyway. Does this  make any difference to the 800lb criteria assuming that both the leg and the transom are strong enough?
I really appreciate your help Bob.

Henry,
The leg is simply called a "bracket".  Most likely made by Stainless Marine out of Opa Locka, FL.  Very stout piece, should be 1/2" aluminum powder-coated, maybe 3/8".

When twins were an option, Proline bolted on a wider bracket pre-drilled to accept twins.

Providing your transom itself is in good shape, you'll have no problem.
