Jim,
Cool!  Let me get the kit from Donzi (we have the solenoids and cabling at our plant), and we'll set up a date for install.  It will take me a couple of days.  But, while I'm working, you drink the beer, I'll drink my lemonade!

Although I'm drinking a Natty Light as I type! Cheers Cheers

Like to do my drinking at home...you know, Pasco County Sheriffs and all... Police

Sounds good Bob. Let me know what works for you, Im thinking end of January. Also, how much of a pain in the a** would it be to relocate the battery switch while we do the install, and id there an economical way to install a third battery that is 100% functional. If its feasable let me know, also if its going to increse the cost let me know. Thanks again Bob.

I'm off for two weeks starting Friday.  Why don't I come over and take a look?

Jim,
I live a couple of miles east of 19, just north of 50.  Lived off County line for 10 years, worked at Stamas for 5 years down in Tarpon.  Yeah, I kinda know the area... Cool

Like I said, I was at Floramar and 19 last Sat.  You know where that is, don't you?  Just north of Trouble Creek?

PM me with an address and phone.  I'll give you a call to set up a time and day.  BTW, I like to get my "work" done early, so don't be surprised by 0700 (maybe 8, if I sleep late!). Cheers Cheers

Wasn't.  Worked for Lockheed-Martin for 14 years over in Orlando.  Built Patriot missiles, Pershing ll missiles, and whole bunch of other neat things.  Get sort of used to military time...

Hi JPaul:

Welcome to the site! While I don't have a windlass on my 24SS, I have had a Horizon 500 on my 251 for the past 11+ years.

Lewmar bought out Simpson a few years ago. The Lewmar Pro Sport 550 specs out identically to the Horizon 500. The physical dimensions are a bit smaller but the pulling power, amps, etc are the same. I have a new Pro Sport 550 on order...It was shipped yesterday. If you wait a couple of weeks, I will be able to give you a tested opinion.

Frankly, I wore out the Horizon 500. The fiberglass gypsey (metal on the PS 550 Thumbs Up)is worn to the point that it will no longer grip the 1/2 inch anchor line and the brake slips. I have anchored hundreds of times in strong currents (SF Bay) and this machine has taken alot of abuse over the years. I never felt that I needed a more powerful windlass....so I am buying a comparable replacement. If your anchoring requirements dictate deep reef fishing or currents greater than about 3 knots, than an upgrade may be desired. My normal fishing spots are in 30 feet or less.
I bought the windlass with new chain and rode online from Boaterland Marine.

P.S> Post your comments about you 24SS on the Models section!

It arrived today. Hopefully, tomorrow I will get it installed and be able to give you a review.

Warren,
Are you going to have to run any new cabling forward?  Or will the existing cables do the trick?  BTW, what gauge cable do you have going forward?  2,4,8, or what?  When I got to Proline, I thought their wiring was a little on the "light" side... Huh?
