I see dead fishes

« Reply #15 on: December 11, 2009, 09:36:19 AM »

It was 19F last night, and my brother was over helping me out with some drywall work.  I just got a shipment of Macanudos, so we went outside for a smoke. The snow was blowing horizontally, and we couldn't see the end of the driveway.

So I sneak open the Proline cover and we hop in, fire up the stogies and sit in the captains chairs listening to the wind howl outside...and threatening to go open a bottle of scotch and launch the boat Huh?

When hell freezes over I won't care...I'll be in the Proline Cheers

OK - Let's see if I figured out how to post a couple of pictures!

Last day in warm waters of San Diego - On the way to Washington State!

Now, to back it in without taking out the garage or the car !!

And the fun begins -- playing with a loose bolt.

Well, it looks like I've got the links here -- will work on getting the photos in the body of the message.  I will be back !!

Last day in warm waters of San Diego !

Now, let's back it in at home, without taking out the garage!  Must be OK - the neighbor has his hands in his pockets...

And the fun begins -- playing with a loose bolt.  Neighbor "Rusty" checking out the helm area...

Good morning Bob -- I see you're online.  Can you tell me the best approach to find out some info. on my motors?  I haven't been able to find the serial numbers (plates are painted over), and I'm trying to verify the exact model number and designation.  The survey shows models are Volvo Penta AD41P, but pictures of that model on the Volvo site show some design differences.  I think they are AD41B or AD41D.  Does Pro Line have records of the serial numbers and/or model names of the motors?  The hull # of the boat is PLCMK038A393.
Thanks -- Jim       Banging Head

Jim,
Call Faron Mack tomorrow (he gets in at 0800 EST, 1100 your time) and give him your HIN.  Your hull file should still be there, and as long as she wasn't repowered, the engine S/Ns will be documented.  (352) 795-4111.  If Faron isn't there, ask for Jim Kogler or Debbie Abbate.

Great, Bob -- Once again, thanks.  By the way, I'm slowly changing a few things on the boat (nothing major, just little "fixups" and convenience items), and will try to post a few photos as I progress.  And, we are hoping to take a trip this Summer / Fall to visit our daughter in Clearwater -- would enjoy meeting you, and share some fishtales..
 Thumbs Up Cheers

Lunch in Tarpon Springs, Dodacanese St., also known as Sponge Docks St.  Best Greek food this side of Athens.  Hell, I'll even show you my old stomping grounds, the Stamas Yacht plant! Roll Eyes

BTW, better invite brad1951 along, he knows more about 2950s than I'll ever know...and he likes greek food too! Cheers Cheers

It will happen !!  Been to Tarpon Springs -- mistakenly took my wife, so they were short of sponges for a couple of weeks, and our suitcases were -- well, spongy!  And I think we had lunch in a Greek restaurant while there.  Dam good!
brad1951 is definitely invited as are both your spouses (if you are so "connected").  Maybe you can both visit me on my home turf this Fall -- Salmon are running strong in July and August, off the Columbia River bar.  We'll be on the 2950. Consider yourselves invited.  Guaranteed good time, and there WILL be salmon, dungeness crab, and if the weather permits, albacore tuna.

OK, here is an update, re: motor information.  Had a very good conversation with Faron today - A nice, helpful person!  He's doing research to find the hull file, and has sent me a 2950 owner's manual.  Very helpful info.  Meanwhile, I got in the engine compartment and finally located the painted over plates for the engines and stern drives.  My engines are in fact AD41B -- not AD41P, as the marine survey says.  They appear to be almost identical except for some part numbers and location of electrical box on engine, but part numbers is the big deal.  Most of them are the same on both engine models, but not all of them.  Since Volvo has detailed drawings (exploded parts diagrams) on the internet, I can refer to those. (All the engine specs. and stern drive specs. appear to be identical).  So, good progress made today -- and it was a dry day -- no RAIN !!  I spent most of the day doing "fixits" on the boat, rather than watching it rain.  Weather is changing tonight, back to showers for the next week ++.  Here's  Cheers Thumbs Up to Faron and Bob, and  Evil Angry Banging Head to the weatherman...
Thanks again for the help, gentlemen !!

I'm starting my "upgrades" to the cockpit area, and wanted to share a "before" view.  The engine hatch is a single full-width cover across both engines, rather than the typical dual hatches, and you can see there is a large "notch" opening in the front wall of the cockpit, which gives good access to the rear of the engines, blower, and hydraulics for the lower unit trim units and trim tab unit.  So, not nearly as bad to work on as the twin gas engine I/O arrangement with the double engine hatches.  Those would be impossible to access for spark plugs, etc. - as seabob has mentioned!  And the Penta diesels are only 30" wide, so decent space on both sides.  BTW, you can see that I've removed the aluminum angle iron brace between the engines, which supports the center of the hatch.  Having said all that, it would still be a hell of a lot easier to get down in there and work if I was 5'2" and 25 years old, rather than 6'4" and 67 years old)!!!   Banging Head  My goal is to do some modifications, mostly for appearance, but also for better access.  Will do a series of photos in the near future, showing the replacement of the two cover plates on the cockpit wall with access doors, and a few other changes for appearance.  "Stay tuned -- film at 11", as the newscasters say.
Oh, yeah -- that red "thingy" sitting on the "notch" cover (on top of livewell area) -- that's a flashlight.  And that thing that looks like a rag on top of the starboard engine -- that's a rag....   Angel Cheers

Jim,
In-line 6 diesels are a treat, aren't they?  I used to install 440HP Yanmars in 34 Stamas' that you could squat between.  Throw a couple of 8.2 Mercruisers in there, and you might be able to get a pencil between the risers!

Btw, those 2 screwed down panels on the vertical above the motors need a few more screws... Angel  What are they there for, and have you thought of opening hatches?
