Good morning!  Really glad to find this forum!
OK, I couldn't stand it any longer.  Several years ago I saw a Proline Walk while returning from a salmon fishing trip on the Columbia River, and it impressed me with the layout.  They were just trolling along, so I did a quick "in the water" once over.  I never forgot that boat.  The only way to cure the infection was to feed it.  So I just bought a '93 with twin Volvo Penta AD41P turbo diesels and duo prop drives.  The salmon season is over, so I get to sit on it and play with the controls and switches until next Spring.  I didn't have much time to do a detailed checkout with the former owner, so I'm basically tracing wiring and hoses, opening doors and covers, and trying to get it all figured out.  I've taken it out for one run, and it's really impressive!
Now, on to the point of this posting -- There are no manuals of any kind on the boat, and the owner doesn't know if he has any.  No owners manual, no engine or stern drive manuals, no manuals on the refrig, toilet system, water system, etc. I spent two hours tracing down an "electrical problem", before I found the breaker switch!  And, although I can troubleshoot and tear down a gasoline engine to the crankshaft and rebuild it, I don't know DIDDLY about these diesels.  The internet has some info, but I haven't landed any manuals.
So, any help or ideas out there, or shared experiences, or sources for parts (which I hope I never need)  --- I would appreciate it!  Or, just a good chat.

I found the Operator's manuals for the engines on the Volvo Penta website (Imagine that !!), so I'm "good to go" there.  And I found the local engine dealer, which I hope to need rarely.  So now it's down to the Owner's manual for the boat.  I think I'll take the obvious road here, and call the factory.
Thanks !! Thumbs Up

I have a 1992 2950. I have the manual for the stove, refrigerator, head and various wiring diagrams. They are down at the boat and I won't get down there for another week or two, but can scan and email to you if you want.

An owners manuel for the boat is something that just never existed, if you have any specific questions contact cust. service at 352-795-4111. Farin or Jim will make every effort to answer your question. If they dont know they will track one of us working in the trenches down and try to solve your problem.

Hey, wvespe -- That would be great!  I can download PDF's or JPG's, or any of the "normal" attachment formats.  My email address is westhunt@airspd.net -- Thanks very much -- The head and wiring diagrams are the two items that could be the most crucial.  And any "insider" wisdom you have gained from your ownership of the 2950 would be great.

Banging Head  I'm needing a little help with some "specs" -- I have seen quite a few 2950's for sale, and it seems they all claim different fuel tank capacities.  Are they 200 gallon, 220 gallon, or 300 gallon??  (Mine is twin diesel, if that makes a difference).
Also, I am needing to replace some tachometers -- The portside tach shows 3200 rpm and the starboard side shows 3900 rpm when I'm "tuned in" on a good cruise speed.  The portside tach was replaced by previous owner -  the dial range is 0 - 4000 rpm.  Starboard side tach is original, and dial range is 0 - 4500 rpm.  Hourmeter on startboard tach doesn't work.
I'm thinking that the portside tach reads low, maybe because it wasn't re-calibrated.  So here are the questions:  1. Do my tachometers get their reading from the alternators, or from magnetic pickup in the bell housing?  2.  What tachometers and sending units will work on my motor setup (Volvo Penta 200 hp turbo diesels, model AD41P).  Frankly, I'm hoping that they read from the alternators, rather than the bell housing, and if they don't do that currently, can I make the swap to some that do??
(Oh, yeah -- Volvo wants over $250 each for their diesel tachs -- You can buy other brands, like Faria and Teleflex for about $80 - $100)..  Huh? Shocked
Help.....  thanks !    Popcorn

RE fuel tank capacity...I found the capacity of my tank by lifting the deck plate above the fuel sending unit and peering around with a flashlight.  There was a sticker on the tank from the tank builder just to port of the sending unit.  I almost didn't see it because it was covered in grime and was very thin Thumbs Up

Thanks Hugh -- That's a great tip.  I've lifted the deck plates to see what was under there, but didn't check out the stickers.  I'll take another look.

Hi C-Lark:

My old '98 catalog lists the OB version at 300 gallons and the I/O version at 220 gallons. Hope this helps.

Hi Warren and Hugh:  Great advice on the fuel capacity -- I found the stickers on the sides of the tanks, which are saddle mounted -- Each tank is 110 gallons, so Warren is right on at 220 gallons for the stern drive models.
Thanks to you both.  Now I know how much to save up for the "dreaded refill" -- About $600 - Yikes !!  Hope the engines get about 30 mpg..... Yeah, maybe I'll hope for 3 ?

C,

I have one of these to monitor fuel consumption in gph and totalize consumption.  You may already have similar, but if you don't, it really helps me to optimize engine tilt and trim tab position to maximize fuel efficiency at a given speed.  The totalizer also serves as a sanity check to the fuel tank float.

You guys know how to get me to spend money!  Shocked I checked out the Floscan systems for diesels -- with my twins, that will set me back about $1200+  for the dual flowmeter systems, or closer to $1850 for the multifunction meter systems - plus installation cost, of course. (remember, I have a tach that isn't recording hours, and another that shows the wrong rpm).

Problem is, I want them!  Cry Cry

Thumbs Up  Right on, Hugh !  I'm almost single handedly keeping the economy from going completely down the sewer.  Just doin' my part to keep the good old US afloat.  Like the country / western artist Roy Clark said "Money don't even slow down when it comes to me" !!  I think I'll introduce you to my wife one of these days -- she has a frying pan she'd like to test on your head, just for egging me on.....  Wink
OK, I'm headed out to the boat, which is sitting in front of my shop at a temperature of 11 degrees.  Gotta check to be sure the heaters and heat lamps are doing their job.  And freezing rain is predicted for tonight and tomorrow.  The fun just keeps on coming!  Have a great day, Proliners -- and remember, there are some accessories you don't have on your boat -- go get 'em!   Thumbs Up Cheers
