20 ft Sport with 135 Honda (2009) West Marine 650 VHF radio. At idle no problem, but anything over about 2000 RPM the High Voltage Alarm starts on the radio. Per the manual high range 14.3 volts. Gauge needle bounces around 14. Not sure how accurate it is...manual says engine output should be 12V -40amps.
Any ideas?

mybe help maybe not. Smiley
if  a battery has bad cell ,charging system will tend to run at max regulated voltage.
14.3 is ok in "charge"  mode but once bat is topped up it should be a bit lower.
how is your electrolite(water) level if nonmaintenance free battery?
does turning on your lights and blower make alarm turn off?
its possible your engine is overcharging, but check battery , connections and other things first.
most engine charging problems are going to be no charge or undercharge  IMO.
any one esle ever have this problem?

Can you measure voltage at battery terminals at idle and then over 2000 rpms maybe a voltage regulator?

Take a meter, and with someone else driving, probe into the backside of the 2-pin power supply harness coming out of the back of your VHF.  This will tell you what voltage the VHF is ACTUALLY seeing, as opposed to what it thinks it sees. Undecided
