If you seldom run it i wouldnt put in an led, but if it is the type that accidentally gets left on or if changing bulbs is a hassle to you then put in an led.

led has greater bulb life and higher cost.
regular lights should be fairly innexpensive.
as far as failures go , what has gone wrong? lights normally have few parts?
you can use an led overnight and the battery hardly knows it was on.
on an incandescent you cna change a bulb for 1 or less

I seldom use my anchor light at anchor and instead just hang a $6.95 led lantern
with 4aa batteris
off either the vhf antenna or the light pole, lasts many hours and no worry about switching batteries at sun up just to start.

either way you have advantages.

cJAY,
If I'm not mistaken (hey, I've been out of work for awhile!), we use a dome light that has a spreader switch position.  Let me check on it for you.

My dome light is dead. Can someone tell me where to get a dome light with spreader switch?  6" base. Smiley
