I am the proud owner of a beautiful 1987 Pro-Line 20 Sport center console.  I have been in the process of restoring it over the past year or two and am just about finished.  New gauges, DC electrical panel, and a fuel tank are all I have left to update.

I realized that my boat had a fuel tank leak the Tuesday before July 4th out of South Padre.  Bilge water in the fuel tank killed the engine.  If this happens to you while you're on the water, draining the seawater/fuel separator and bleeding the fuel line (between the separator and fuel pump) a couple of times will get you back to shore.  We made it back fine and now I'm in the process of replacing the tank.  Obviously, I was overdue for my recommended 20 year tank inspection!

Pro-Line gave me the contact information for the company who builds their tanks so that I can order a new one.  www.rdsaluminum.com

I have removed the center console and pushed it off to the side of the tank panel without having to disconnect wiring or steering linkages.  I made a 1" deep cut along the tank panel seam with a 4.5" grinder and cut off wheel.  The panel won't lift off with arm strength alone.  Any ideas on how to get the tank floor panel out so I can pull the old fuel tank?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Jason

Jason,
Reach in the access plate and feel the tops of the stringers that flank the fuel tank port and starboard for bonding putty.  If your "cuts" fell on top of the stringers, your "hatch" is being held in place by putty.
