Hi all, i have a 2006 suzuki 4 stroke 225hp that has come available to me for a real steal.  The only question i have is that it is a 25 inch leg and my 2002 mercury 225hp 2 stroke efi is a 30 inch leg.  Would the 25 inch leg work?  Has anyone done this?  If so did you notice any difference?  Thanks in advance for any help.

This may not help but has basics.

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/events/dynamicevent/3/1059/boaters_log_vol_1_no_14.aspx

Does the outboard  mount on transom, standoff  bracket or Huh??

if  direct on transom , maybe, but transom may have to be cut down and reworked, I wouldn't likely try that.
what is the lowest you can adjust ? are there any height adjustments on your transom or  the motors bracket?

on a bracket mount that stands off you may have more chance as the prop will be back a bit from edge of transom,

Even if it "Works" it may exhibit ventilation, cavitation,  undesirable handling, etc. maybe, if its the only option you have, and you are reasonably skilled,  hang it on there and give it a sea trial?

but if its right up against the transom, and antiventilation plate is not "in range" of propper water flow, its going to be suboptimal at best. is it such a steal that you can get most of your money back if it doesent work acceptably?
better to do it right the first time and skip this motor if  its potential cost and quirks make a great boat a poor one.

Thanks for the response.  The outboard will mount directly on the transom.  The 2002 23 walk is what some people call the euro transom. I presently have a 30 inch leg, but there is about a 2.5 ft step up from the actual hull.  Also the cavitation plate sits below the deepest part of the deep V at least 2-3 inches.  I don't think it would be an issue.  Hopefully i can find someone that has done it and get some feedback.  I will probably do it and if it won't work i won't lose any money.  Thanks again
