Another great spot in the Sarasota/Bradenton are is the Manatee river.  Every conceivable species of inshore fish available, including Pompano and Permit, as well a good schools of Ladyfish to thrill the kids.  Put in at Kingfish ramp on the Anna Maria side of the Manatee Avenue bridge and it's a short jaunt to the mouth of the river.  Lots of good oyster beds for Redfish, as well as a lot of potholes for flounder.  Wade fishing is also excellent, easy access at DeSoto Memorial Park, at the end of 75th Street W.
