i am fixing some gelcoat damage on my keel that is down to the fiberglass.  is 3m premium filler ok for this app or should i use the high strength before gelcoating.  thanks, kor

I dont know the product but ive had adhesion problems with polyester "bondo" type fillers.
but, if its an epozy based material it will often stick better --but --be difficult to sand.
if its on the keel you may only need to fill and paint it rather than gelcoat.
you may want to look into a metal or plastic keelguard/keelshield type product  if you are often contacting hard objects more than once in a  blue moon.

Marine Tex epoxy is a great fix. Very close in color, great adhesion.  Not a perfect blend in but for a keel,,,,just apply and sand smooth.
