So my 13 year old wipers (AFI 1000), finally bit the dust. They have not worked well for some time. I had to pry the arms off so the motor shafts could drop out of the hole. I found one wire terminal fully corroded away. The other's motor was smoked. Parking circuit fuse was blown. I am buying new motors, arms, and blades.

Dual wipers for my area are well worth the expense. I really missed them the other morning when they didn't work and I couldn't see thru the condensation, running in the fog.

More to the point... I pulled the instructions off the Marinco /AFI website. These state to add a diode when running 2 wipers off a common switch. This was never done (I had the port wiper installed later). Probably the reason, these wipers never parked properly. Anyone familiar with these instructions? Can one purchase a crimp style, in-line diode for this application?

Can you post a link to the instructions?  I don't know where to get marine grade diodes so you will probably need to buy an automotive one and heat shrink it.

An update....

I bought a diode from a local electronics shop (it is sure nice when you ask a salesman a question and he knows his stuff!!). It is NTE Electronics , part NTE5812. I wired it in-line per the wiper instructions using crimp splicers and some heat shrink tubing.

I found my best deal on Ebay (Great Lakes Skipper). Two AFI 1000 motors shipped for $277. I had to open them up to set the sweep angle and park position. These have the 1.5 inch shafts which fit a bit more flush than the originals. Now the blades park next to the center window frame and run in synch....sweet. Thumbs Up

West Marine had the 14-20 arms in stock. I bought 20 inch blades for more sweep area; these I had to order.

Sometimes you gotta got o the electronics store. now most of this stuff has nothing to do with proline and sometimes there is little choice even for OEM.
one of the square  green led night lights went out on my compass.
the replacement was 19.99+12.99 shipping from mfr or stores.
the electronics store was~ $2for same  led, .25c for resistor and 15min soldering and heat shrinking time .
would have been quicker just coughing up $33 and leds normally last  longer than compass,
but i got a bit of satisfaction by not having to buy overpriced in my opinion part that should have been 10 bucks or less retail & WAS SHIPABLE IN AN ENVELOPE.!

MY WIPER DIED UNDER WARANTY & New one doesent self park but thats not been big deal.
I will likely need replacement soon but you never know with boats.
electrically, this one is 14years old.
Iv'e been through 3 blowers, 2 bilge pumps 3bait pumps 2wipers, 1battery selector switch
2anchor lights &1cabin water pump +many light bulbs(led festoons on order for bow)
you get to know your boats hidden areas a bit better!

Now you get to go out in the fog and mist and know why you spent he money and did the work Thumbs Up
