New to the site but not new to boating.

Last Wednesday I bought an '86 Proline 21' Walkaround with a Yamaha 150 2 stroke.  The boat is in very good condition and with the exception of the motor cowling being weather beaten; the motor appears to be in excellent condition.  Being that it was an 8 hr drive back home, I didn't take a test ride when I bought it.  Today I did take it out to the lake for a shakedown cruise but only got about 100' from the launch when the steering cable at the helm broke.  I limped back, got it home and discovered that the "keeper" pin was missing.  Easy fix.  I'll take it out again next week because there’s too many lake lice on the weekend to conduct a test run LOL.

I do have one question for the members who maybe familiar with this motor bracket below. As you can see, I've started sanding the flaking paint off.  It's appears to be cast aluminum and is an open "well" on the top.  My concern is the additional water weight while underway.  The previous owner said it was on the boat when he bought the boat back in NY from the dealer where he lived at the time.  Just curious and want to know more about the bracket.

Apparently this bracket was the standard used in the 80's.  I ran across these two different boat on two different backeast Craigslist.  I emailed each owner but neither knew the manufacturer  :'( .

No I haven't had a chance to get back out on the lake.  Will try sometimes this week.
Unusual that I haven't got a reply as to the motor bracket.  I'm sure it's not "one" of a kind  Roll Eyes

I usually see more people frequent these sites in the winter, most are probably out boating. I am going out tomorrow for some prawns and Dunganess crab. Our weather on the west coast has been one of the strangest years ever, high water levels in the rivers for this time of year to lots of rain, hopefully tomorrow is nice.

I see you're up Vancouver, B.C. Canada.  I'm down in the Sacramento, Ca area where I Striper trolling exclusively in my 20' Reinell hardtop.  Just a month ago, I've expanded my fishing to the San Francisco/San Pablo Bay area hunting for Halibut where I felt that my Reinell is a little small, especially if I plan to head out the Golden Gate bridge for Salmon and rock fish..thus the 21' Proline W/A that appears to be a very solid boat.  As I mentioned, I'll take her out for a 2nd shakedown cruise sometimes this week and hopefully get a good feel for her handling and performance.

I finally took the W/A back on the lake today.   Went thru some maneuvers, hard right, hard left, WOT, idle, reverse and at cruising speed.  Although the lake was smooth, I was able to create enough turbulence going over my own wake just to see how it handled.  With the deep V hull, it cut right thru and didn’t even affect the ride.  I’m quite impressed with the boat handling but I do need to change out the trailer’s rollers to bunk boards.  I’ll also re-power from the current Yammi 2 stroke to a Yammi F150 4 stroke.  This should be the ticket for fishing the SF/San Pablo bays and occasionally trolling outside the Golden Gate for Salmon and jig for rockfish.

Good to hear the steering is working for you. It is funny about trying to create turbulance to see how the boat handles in it, I was doing the same with mine because every time I went out it was flat calm.

There are some great engines to choose from, I have a honda on mine and am very impressed with the lack of fuel consumption. I have also heard some good reports on the Evinrude ETEC and the Yamaha's are work horses. Have fun with it.

My trip out fishing was good. I picked up a few Dunganess Crab, 75 Prawns and released a small King Salmon.

Congrats on the boat. Maybe we will run into each other some time.

I started with an 18 foot SeaSwirl and would run up to Dux..... and hurry back in when the winds would pick up. Be sure to install a decent GPS plotter so that you can navigate safely if/when the fog swallows you along the Coast.

Yes, I agree on the GPS plotter which btw I have my Lowrance LCX113C HD that's currently on my Beachcraft Hardtop and will go on the WA.  The Yamaha F150 (not pictured) will  also be swapped over.

Here's a pic of my Beachcraft that I'll keep until I complete "outfitting" the WA.
