My 2008 23 SPORT

GPS
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:08:35 AM »

I have a RAYMARINE A65 chartplotter with an RS12 GPS receiver antenna. My GPS stopped recording tracks and I cant find my ship on the chart anyware. I can see on the chart where the boat should be but it is not there. The Find Ship and Go To functions (buttons) are no longer working. I can see the options dimly lit but they are not lit up brightly so I can't use them. I found an option in the menu called GPS status, it tells me there is no signal. My GPS is also connected to my RAYMARINE  marine radio, when I turn that on it tells me NO GPS as well.

I pulled forward the center console and I can't see any loose connections. GPS antenna on the t-top looks good to me. I did a soft factory reset to the computer (reset without removing tracks and waypoints) and it changed nothing. Can the GPS receiver just go bad like that?? Banging Head

Dose the GPS antenna wire have a fuse on it someware?

If there is anyone that has experienced a similar problem or has any suggestions to HELP please respond?

I have never had a GPS problem with either my Furuno combos nor my RayMarine A50d (nor my Northstar GPS before it was stolen). There is not an in-line fuse in the GPS antenna cable.

Recently, I was re-mounting my GPS antenna while making a few minor modifications to my wiring. My local marine electronics guy told me NOT to mount the antenna in-line with the radar. He said eventually the radar output will fry the antenna......Maybe this is relavent in your case.

Definitely, re-check the GPS connection at the rear of the unit. Hopefully it is something simple.
