Hello everyone. Now that the boat is home im getting around to doing all the work that is need. Im looking for ideas on how to mount a 9.9 high thrust kicker to my 2006 24ss proline. I have a single 250 verado and want to add this kicker. Has anyone one this and have a picture on how to do it. The kicker has a 25 inch shaft if that helps. I have seen some seaswirls that have them mounted but havent came across a proline.Any help would be great, 2 weeks till my first derby yahoo...

POST A COUPLE PICTURES OF YOUR TRANSOM  AREA.
There are a couple guys who can make suggestions.
also depends on things like transducres and steps , and maybe tabs.
DO you also want to rig some kind of tiebar? Cool

Why??? For piece of mind just buy some towing insurance.

The OB will slow troll just fine. That kicker just adds weight, expense, maintenance, and ugly to the transom.

not sure on  how slow of a troll the verado will do and to save on fuel. Time will tell i guess. I have a tie bar set up and i have the kicker already. I want a stationary set up not a ugly spring loaded set up. I really like the stripper set up that mounts on the swim step. Im just woundering if anyone here has seen someone with a set up.

A CASE FOR A KICKER.  love hate.
Not for everyone I admit. But....Up here a large percentage have them.
and if they dont, they geet one after their first breakdown.
Where I boat there is no Boat US type comercial tow , only USCG emergency response out of Morro BAy, There is an open stretch from Sabta barbara to Monterey Area , about 250+ miles rugged  Unserved, only 2 ports , Port San Luis/Avila & Morro Bay.
The weight is a  big drawback of course, but it beats Drifting, Ive returned to port on kickers More than once, Stuff Breaks that can not be repaired at sea (engine couplers for one). also for salmon trolling 2.5-3 Knots , the kicker is the ticket
Even with Main in min-idle gear its often too fast for the deep troll. same for halibut drifting/trolling  on calm day, backtrolling to stay on small reef etc.
Maint on kicker is aprox  1-one qt oil change a year, a pint of gear lube , clean the spark plugs with a toothbrush, stabilize fuel and a few touches of grease
I and others  also have used kickers  to get boat out of shallow launch basin at low tide when outdrive cant be run down (normally about 30-40feet of sand) until deep water.
saves a few bucks fuel on salmon troll , sometimes hours without stop and cuts down on wear on main systems.
but, sometimes , on a close to port trip it stays at home.
wish i didnt need it, expensive to purchase, etc but I hate that feeling when ol
Bravo2 and Mr Chev5.7  have an issue that cant be fixed with common spares and tools. Stuff happens even with superb maintenace.

Good points 231!

I DO wish I had a kicker for slow trolling for halibut. That is really the only time I just cant get it right with my I/O. Never dragged the bucket...just don't want to mess with that. Alternatively, I drift live/dead baits.

I did break down hard one time (in 12 years, 3100 hours on my PL). That was when I blew up my 7.4. Luckily, I was only 4-5 miles from home and was towed in by my mechanic. That day I had been out the Gate fishing for salmon. That would have been a major tow. I have $1000 of coverage on my policy for $59 a year (never used it).

I've towed others quite a few times. I carry a heavy tow rope, some spare parts and a good karma. Grin Hopeful that when the time comes, I will receive a helping hand.

One time, I was out albacore fishing. My boat hooked up with another boat and we went another 20 miles or so to get on some fish. On the run in, they ran out of gas! As I recall, we had about 20nm to Pt Bonita. I started towing them. I hailed another boat that later ran up on us and gave them some 2 stroke mix. They started up and ran maybe 12-14 miles before they once again ran out of fuel. So, I started towing them once again. They said they could call Vessel Assist....it was getting dark, unknown how long before a tow service would reach them....so I keep towing them. It took hours! Banging Head Ebbing out the Gate but we had cleaned all the fish and drank all the beer by the time we had them fast to a dock. BTW, I didn't know those guys and wouldn't recognize them today if I ran into them (I do know the kind of boat they run). Karma?Huh? I believe I have some coming my way, some day. Thumbs Up

That's just the way it is supposed to work out there. You offer help to a vessel in distress....

If you run in waters where there is no one to lend you a hand.....Well, that is another good reason for a kicker!

3100 hours on a 454 Shocked, any warning? throw a rod? crack a piston,
you were due. at least a valve job & timing chain?
almost  everyone on alby grounds is considerate about mutual assistance. golden rule rules.
I hear so. cal bite below ventura is a lot different but everyone has seatow etc there.

You got karma due, my friend.  I used to sail in the SF Bay and twice towed in another sailboat (with my Atomic 4 - but that's another story!), but that was within the Bay so quite different than past the gate.

Ran out of gas.  Indeed!  Lips Sealed

No!! I had 1475 hours on the 454 when it broke. Water in the heads ...never tore it apart to find out what happened. I had added some crankcase additive just 8 hours operating time before it let go...CRC engine seal.

I opted for a new 5.7 GXi. It was June, the fishing was getting hot and a full motor swap was the best solution. I don't miss that big block at all.

Im told WATER In the heads common from  stuck exh valve sucking water into cyl on intake stroke from exh system, primary cause sometimes seepage from exh manifold to elbow gaskets.
on one of mine(5.7 raw water) stuck exh valve bet pushrod but was able to save engine by headgasket, valve job, pushrod and new manifolds.
leaky manifolds/risers are root of much mischief, it can happen new or old flushed or not,oem or aftermarket.
Once was able to" save:/fix a ford omc 351 also with a head gasket valve job and pushrod.
