sweet, is it gas or diesel??? I have a MASE 2.7 kw installed on my 30 walk, also runs everything on the boat, but i don't have a water heater. the only bad thing about my genny is that since its a one cylinder diesel, it's somewhat loud as compared to similar gas gennys. i hadn't thought of putting insulation on the hatch like you did because it has a sound shield on it, but i think i'm gonna install some and see if it makes a differance. BTW, where is your water heater mounted on the boat and through which faucet does the hot water run through???

Nice looking installation, yoda --- By the way, are you OK with the temperature in that area?  The Whitney sound insulation you referenced says "do not put in engine room" -- It melts at 200 degrees...
 Cheers

Nice install! I have a factory installed Kohler on my 30 WA and its is further back in the same area you placed yours. Its mounted to an aluminum frame and servicing it is a nightmare. You have the right idea by keeping the unit further forward but, there is a lot going on in that area... Thumbs Up

Used the generator for about 8 hrs total.
Can have the ac running, hot water heater,
Frig, battery charger, and few other small
devices. I'm up to 18 amps, have 7 amps
free. Have 25 amps capacity. Cannot run
microwave. Have to shut off at least one high
power item.
The generator compartment max temp was 130*F
Average was 120*F. Used a digital display.
The sound/insulation is rate to 392*F(200*C)

Runs nice and quiet. Exhaust on side of boat hear only
running water.
It's a gas gender. Water heater located under steps.
Hot water at galley and head.

Good numbers, yoda -- (That 392*C is actually 92*C, just to nitpick your typing skills  Grin Grin). Looks like you are "good to go"!  I would like to install a generator, but there simply is no room in the engine compartment.  With twin I/O diesels, it's full enough.  They are long engines, so there isn't room in front of them for anything else.  So, it's the coffee thermos for me -- or, bring along a portable generator.  Good fishing !! Thumbs Up

My 3250 has a generator that the seller said "just needed some corroded wires replaced", but I noticed clear plastic hoses cracked, broken, and missing.  I plan to get this genny fixed but wonder if temperatures are a problem.  Genny is factory installed fore of the 7.4L's.  Is temperature a problem to the point where it melts or cracks hoses?

By the way, I like those pics of floor gratings and insulation.  And nice, neat paint!  Who says our engines have to look like greasy stinkpots?

Follow up on the unexpected "fixing up"....  I/O transom was leaking salt water in (for years) but previous owner was not concerned because he had pumps to pump the water out.  Heavy corrosion in starboard stern area.  Sparkplug in that corner could not be taken out until the starboard engine was taken out!  I think I had the original sparkplug - 13 years old!  Engine was removed to put in new transom assembly and while it was out, I had generator pulled to hopefully fix.  Lots of corrosion on front end (the electrical part of the generator).  New one would set me back 10+ grand.   Banging Head Hard to find Westerbeke help who can look at it NOW.  Dealer suddenly became helpful and located reconditioned front end and it was the particular kind that fits my gennie!  Yes!  Just saved $7,000!  Plan now is to have boat in water by the 4th and raise the flag!  Pictures to follow!   Cheers
